Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a colourless, odourless, organic all-purpose solvent used in laboratories and industry. Its very high purity of 99.9% meets Ph. Eur. certification. Depending on the application, it is easily miscible with water in any ratio. It has a remarkably large number of good properties and is extremely versatile.
DMSO has been used in human and veterinary medicine for decades. It is an excellent transdermal transport medium that transports drugs deep under the skin so that they can act on joints, for example.
The penetration-enhancing effect is achieved through interaction with the lipids in the cell membrane. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) disrupts their regular structure, thereby promoting the absorption of other active ingredients.
Important: Slightly contaminated <99% DMSO is often offered online - we demonstrably only use DMSO of the highest pharmaceutical purity, which means 99.9% and certified according to the European Pharmacopoeia.
DMSO becomes crystalline and solid at low temperatures below 18°C, e.g. during transport in winter. This behavior is typical for DMSO and completely harmless. It becomes liquid again when warmed up in a lukewarm water bath. Use within 12 months after opening. Store in a cool, dry place, upright, tightly closed and out of reach of children!
